Lays Potato Chips’ latest brand move, “Do Us A Flavor” features three new flavors: Sriracha, Cheesy Garlic Bread and Chicken & Waffles. I saw these at my grocery store and bought them on a whim. Here is what a group of my friends thought about them.
1. Sriracha – 5 Votes
2. Cheesy Garlic Bread – 2 Votes
3. Chicken and Waffles – 1 Vote
The opinion was that the Chicken & Waffles tasted a bit like dry ramen noodles. There was almost no chicken flavor; literally only two girls felt like they could taste the chicken and syrup flavor dominated. I will say that the one girl who voted for the C&W as her favorite liked them way more than the rest of us liked any of the other two.
Cheesy Garlic Bread, which came in second, basically tasted like cheesy chips. There was very little garlic flavor and no bread flavor. However, there was a starchy after taste but it was due to the potato chip flavor vehicle.
The winner was Sriracha – but not by a lot. It was too sweet and almost tasted like ketchup. The heat and spice was good for those of us who don’t like spicy things but for Sriracha lovers the spice is important and the chips did not have enough.
Lays’ “Do Us A Flavor” line is interesting but I’m not sure any of them are worthy enough to stick around.
